The suns shines on Witney’s Fun Golf Day
It is said that ‘the sun will shine on the righteous’ and the sun certainly did shine on Friday 26th September 2008 when representatives from nearly 40 businesses in Oxfordshire and Wiltshire came together for a Fun Golf Day in aid of Sobell House Hospice Charity.
Organiser Helen Lawrence of Morgen HR Ltd explains “we were so lucky with the weather. As well as the players we also had a good number of non-players who turned up to support us and they were all rewarded with a day of tuition from two of the Witney Lakes pros and, we understand, everyone had a fantastic time, even those who spent some of the day looking for their balls in the bushes.”
Joint organiser Alan Ballard of Information Press, went on “aside from the money from the sales of tickets for the day and the sponsorship of the holes, we also raised extra by organising a raffle and charity auction in the evening. In total we raised over £1200 for Sobell House and were delighted that Sobell House fundraiser Kath Morris was able to join us for the celebratory dinner at the end of the day and receive the donations”.
Sobell House Hospice Charity supports the Sir Michael Sobell House Hospice, which provides vital palliative and end of life care for Oxfordshire people with life threatening illnesses. Established in 1976, the hospice is partly funded by the Oxford Radcliffe NHS trust but relies on funding from the charity to survive.
Helen Lawrence says “we were delighted that so many businesses either attended or sponsored part of the event. Sobell House Hospice does such important work locally and just to raise their profile amongst the local business community should, we hope, help their fundraising in the future”.
Andrew Madigan was the proud winner of the Golf Competition. The grand prize, donated by Baker Self Drive, was a week’s hire of a 7 berth motorhome.
Helen and Alan would like to extent her thanks to all those who donated to the event or took part on the day.
